With harvest getting underway across the region, AgConnex has announced it is adding lentils and lupins to its receivals this year, along with all classes of wheat and barley.
CEO Geoff Barker also said the new rail siding at Wumbulgal is almost ready for operation, with final checks being completed.
“We expect it to be in action very shortly, with the final checks and handover protocols being actioned as we speak.
“It is incredibly exciting, for us and all our growers of course.
“The value this kind of facility will provide to the Riverina is significant, with smoother market access for expanded freight volumes at an ultimately lower cost for growers.
“It will take trucks off the road and, importantly, remove heavy freight from the middle of Griffith within months as MEDLOG relocates to the site.
“We are looking forward to growing fresh domestic and international market opportunities for the best produce from the Riverina.”
AgConnex owns and operates four grain storage and handling facilities across the Riverina at Benerembah, Carrathool, Coleambally and Wumbulgal.
As part of downstream market expansion, the company has added pulses to its receivals this year and is also buying grain on-farm.
“In addition to our own grain buying, third-party buyers and grain pools are actively purchasing at AgConnex sites, offering growers greater flexibility and diversification in marketing their grain,” Mr Barker said.
“Our sites are taking hard and soft wheats, durum, noodle wheat, feed and malting barley, lupins and lentils.
“We are ready to go full speed as harvest arrives, with improved infrastructure and an experienced, dedicated team across all our sites to keep things moving smoothly.
“Harvest is hectic, so we are working hard to do everything we can to make it as seamless as possible for all our growers.
“Quick in, quick out is the aim, across the board.”
